Reflexology Lymph Drainage is a specific way of performing Reflexology, using specialist moves that target the lymphatic system in particular. Unlike our cardiovascular system, our lymphatics rely solely on bodily movement for the fluid to move. It plays a key role in our body’s immune system, so targeting the key areas of the feet corresponding to the lymphatics, while also focusing on the area of concern. It is a very effective way of stimulating the body’s own response to reduce swelling, clear out toxins and blockages and boost our ability to fight infection.
Reflexology Lymph Drainage can be used to treat other conditions aside from Secondary Lymphoedema. The key difference between Massage Lymphatic Drainage and Reflexology Lymph Drainage is that instead of a massage or remedial therapist massaging the area of the body affected by fluid and swelling which can be sore and painful, especially after surgery, Reflexology Lymph Drainage is discreet and focuses solely on the feet or hands by encouraging the flow of fluid through the manipulation of lymphatic reflex points.
Prior to a Reflexology Lymph Drainage treatment, where possible we begin by taking a few measurements of the affected, swollen limb with a tape measure and record the volume of fluid. The Reflexology Lymph Drainage treatment then takes place on the feet (or hands) and the limb is re-measured. This way, we can see and accurately track the difference in fluid volume. This is particularly useful to assess the progression of and improvement in a clients condition over time.
Because of the health assessment and measurement recording, treatments take around 90 minutes.
After just one treatment, clients experience an immediate release of tension and heaviness and in the area of oedema and you can often see the difference in swelling.
However, a series of 4-5 Reflexology Lymph Drainage sessions will record the greatest difference and improvement in feeling and condition of the affected area. Clients report an overwhelming feeling of well-being and the treatments will start to have a longer lasting effect over time.
Healthy Harmony clients use Reflexology Lymph Drainage as an effective tool, often alongside massage and Reiki. They go on to have regular, monthly Reflexology Lymph Drainage treatments as part of an ongoing management of the condition.
Other conditions that can benefit from Reflexology Lymph Drainage treatments are:
· Chronic fatigue
· IBS and Crohns
· Skin conditions and allergies
· Menstrual conditions
· Autoimmune conditions and those prone to frequent infection
In fact, any condition that involves an inflammation of body tissue.
This year we have been truly amazed as to the many presenting conditions that have been elevated or significantly improved by using this technique.
Reduction in swelling in arm and hand. This condition started over 20 years ago and after exhaustive tests and treatment options, nothing had worked.
After 4 treatments, there was an 11cm reduction.
Following treatment for cancer 18 months previously, which involved removal of lymph nodes from the neck, the presenting concerns were:
no taste, 95% loss of movement in the neck and large swelling at the site of cancer/removal on the neck.
Following 3 sessions this gentleman’s taste had returned, 95% of movement had resumed to his neck and 100% of the swelling had gone.
We will be adding photos in due course as our amazing inspirational clients are keen to share what has happened to them, to encourage others to “not give up and to try something different”.
Interestingly enough, are most proactive and vocal ambassadors championing this technique are our men, who state that they were often nagged into trying this approach by partners as they had historically thought complementary therapies were a bit “mumbo jumbo” and really only for ladies!!!!
